I'm so ashamed of my gender for turning something amazing into an issue about them. high five for your accomplishments and extra high five for rocking your artist friends shirt, that shirt was baller. high five for supporting artists. don't let these people get you down, you look like an amazing person. <3

Thanks to you and the team for some amazing science, Matt! In my opinion you are owed a huge apology from certain areas of the press...all the very best for the future :D

Dear Matt, I couldn’t believe my eyes when I read that the reason for your apologies during the Google hangout was... your shirt! I was afraid something terrible happened in the team, but no... a shirt!! I watched every minute of every webcast last wednesday, I felt the tension, I cried when Philae touched down. And I laughed so much (I’m sorry!) when I saw your shirt - a comic relief. To me that day showed the best of what mankind can be, in science and cooperation. You and all those wonderful people around you made me forget my cynism for a couple of days and gave me positive energy, hope and a big smile on my face. I am proud! And I will keep an eye on the Rosetta project no matter what the shirts are like. Regards, Ingrid

You've been a part of an astounding accomplishment for the species Matt, always remember that. You've been attacked by a select minority of misguided individuals who what ever reason feel the need to be perpetually outraged at minor inconsequentialities. Their assinine rage at you will be forgetten, their existence will be forgetten, but Rosetta will not. Their destiny is irrelevancy and oblivion, yours is immortality, recognition in the ever expanding annals of human knowledge. Wear what ever the fuck you want, bro.

Congratulations on the momentous achievement you, and everyone involved in the comet project achieved. This is a great day for science. To see such an event besmirched by something as insignificant as a gift shirt is to do a grave disservice to the human race. Any allegations of sexism against you are purely the creation of clickbait journalists looking to stir a controversy where none exists.

It's true what they say. Landing on a comet is both important and AWESOME, but we have problems here on earth that are much more immediate. The people trying to turn your incredible achievements into a battlefield for their cause are one of them. It broke my heart to see you apologize to these toxic, destructive, irrelevant narcissists, when you should be celebrating. I hope you bounce back from all this. I hope we didn't lose you or your passion. I hope when you are old and wrinkly you still have that shirt, and you will look back at this and say, "When I was your age, kiddo, the world had gone insane, but we still made space our bitch," and smile faintly in remembrance of it all!

Matt, I think it's amazing that you were part of a team that managed the previously-thought-to-be-impossible feat of landing a spacecraft on a comet and your efforts towards the pursuit of science should not be overshadowed by the fact that you wore a shirt that some people felt the need to be babies over. Just know that your contributions towards science are worth so much more to humanity than the infantile bitching that your shirt is somehow holding humanity. Keep your head held high and your jazzy shirt on because you have achieved far more than any pathetic fringe-activist ever will.
