Evanston Parkland and Openspace Coalition

We the undersigned residents of Evanston, Illinois support the passage of a Lakefront Protection Ordinance that would accomplish the following:

1. Public Parkland along the lakefront could not be sold without a unanimous vote of the city council.

2. Leasing of public lakefront buildings would require ample public notice and the unanimous vote of the city council.

3. Transparency - Any proposed changes to public lakefront property must have ample public notice with many opportunities for citizen input.

4. Over time public and private lakefront property owners would be encouraged to replace worn out structures, such as breakwaters, with soft structures that will facilitate the natural flow of current along the Lake Michigan shoreline.
