Prince William County Superintendent Steven Walts recently acknowledged that our teachers, despite lower per pupil expenditures and larger class sizes, are doing a “great job”; our students continue to perform and our schools continue to win awards. What is the reward for this hard work? NO SALARY INCREASE UNTIL 2016! Despite overwhelming agreement that teachers have a significant impact on the prosperity of our community and future of our children, we continue to ignore their worth. So far, the Board of County Supervisors and the School Board have been working hard at shifting the blame. While the adults argue and posture, our children and community are being hurt. It is time for the Board of Supervisors and the School Board to start working together. At a recent supervisors meeting, both Supervisor May and Supervisor Covington agreed that it would be a good idea for a meeting of the two governing boards to take place; Supervisor Frank Principi has now formally called for such a meeting. We, the citizens of Prince William County, call upon the Board of County Supervisors and the County School Board to hold a joint public meeting to explain their positions and resolve this ongoing issue in our school system. Please sign this petition to show your support for a joint public meeting of the Board of County Supervisors and the School Board. Now is the time to work together to find a way to pay our teachers what they deserve!
