Marine Protected Areas work... and they really are essential for our oceans to recover from the massive devastation that humans have already caused through horrendous fishing practices and shark mitigation strategies.

Although I am not a South African, it is important for citizens of other countries to support their friends and colleagues in South Africa. This is because dead oceans don't discriminate and just have an effect on the country who's shores they impact, it affects all of us, globally.
South Africa, please increase your MPA's to the 5% stated, you and us will both win.

The need for more marine sanctuaries, MPAs and in particular, "no take zones", is more essential than ever before due to heavy pressure on our marine environment through over fishing and pollution. These small areas become nursery grounds for marine life, and by protecting them and leaving them undisturbed it is proven that there will be an increase in marine stock. MPAs also allow for threatened species to regenerate.
South Africa has a rich diversity of marine life along our entire coastline and must join other nations in protecting some of this for the health of our oceans and for future generations.
Well managed MPAs are also attractive to the eco-tourism trend gaining popularity globally, bringing much needed income to local communities.
Please support every effort to increase these protected areas.
Thank you.

Dear DEA
I fully support the proposed 5% of our EEZ as MPA's. I hope that we can work towards 10% in the years to come.
As South Africa has the 3rd highest biodiversity on the planet, we should be striving to protect our amazing heritage.

SA is hugely privileged to have not one, but two surrounding oceans which have protected the country forever. The oceans must he valued and appreciated and the marine parks must be respected forever.
