Open super pit mining is dangerous to workers and animals alike and ruins our environment. Our Earth's surface is not particularly rich in minerals and a lot of the surface is destroyed with not much result. These materials go into making everyday technology such as phones and computers and are rather hard to come by. We can help protect our Earth by introducing asteroid mining which is not as impossible as it sounds. Space tethers could also introduce a new age of space exploration and are a great way to travel around our galaxy reasonably fast.
