Cannot believe that houses lass than a mile away are much better served than we are. Broadband is no longer a luxury. It's an essential part of modern life, evidenced by fact that the Government, national and local are promoting a huge digital agenda. Surely it's in everyone's interests to enure that people are equipped to engage with it

Businesses and residents in this area want, need and deserve modern services.
It has taken the best part of 5 months for BT / Open Reach between them to give me a less than reliable barely 2MB service at Earsdon View.

You raise a fair point Dave. Before Alan Campbell launched this petition, we'd already completed a small-scale survey in our part of fibre-neglected Holyfields. Our results were clear cut. We had 65 respondents out of 67, and of those respondents 97% said they would be prepared to upgrade to superfast fibre broadband. BT weren't interested in our results and as you point out in your other comments - why would they be? Incidentally, we did point this out to a contact at North Tyneside Council but received no comments on the matter... So in addition to our small-scale campaign, We'd also launched our website, Twitter feed and posted almost 1400 flyers to properties around West Allotment, before this petition came about.
The main aim of our wider campaign was primarily to raise awareness of just how close Virgin Media's network are to West Allotment and to encourage people to register their interest on the Virgin Media cable my street site.
Obviously the higher the number of registrations, the better chance we stand of having Virgin Media extend to our area. We still hope that our neighbours continue to register, despite some of them already having access to superfast broadband because:
a) they'd ultimately have more choice over a number of packages (i.e. Broadband, TV, Phone etc)
and…
b) they'd be helping their fellow neighbours’ campaign
This petition which Alan Campbell then launched will hopefully get more signatures, but we agree that the target of 1000 signatures is looking unlikely...

It's disappointing that we need to go to these lengths to have a suitable broadband service in this digital age.

Hoping this extends to Earsdon View. Internet speeds are atrocious in our area - it's much faster to have 4g mobile.

I agree completely that it gives those people with mobility issues greater access to the outside world & is also an essential tool for those in education.

I too like Simon B have been enquiring about fibre broadband since it was first announce. I have a small business and find it unbelievable that Openreach are just considering if it is viable to install I thought the government said it was madatory for every house hold to eventually have superfast broadband. we live in an urban area on a housing estate yet other estates around our estate already have it. I have heard not having superfast broad band devalues your house!

I have been enquiring about fibre broadband since moving to the area 4 years ago. I find it ridiculous how a large new built housing estate does not have this service!

I agree we should all receive a better service. Paying for a supposed broadband and getting nothing more than 2.3mps is disappointing and rather outdated
