Dear Muslims everywhere,

I am an American Muslim and I want your attention and your help. I will not tell you whether I am a Sunni or a Shia because doing so will defeat the purpose of this petition.

As you are all aware, the Muslim and Arab Ummahs are going through what can only be described as the most dangerous and the saddest period in their history and they are being divided by well-known forces along sectarian lines. There is now what can only be described a sectarian war tearing apart the fabric of our societies and killing our people in the hundreds of thousands.THE TWO WORDS OF SUNNI AND SHIA ARE DESTOYING US.

This petition is addressed to all media outlets and organization in the Muslim and non-Muslim worlds. It is addressed to all leaders of the Islamic World to beg them to MAKE IT THE OFFICIAL POLICY OF THESE MEDIA ORGANIZATIONS AND GOVERNMENTS THAT:

- NO reference should ever be made in any media outlet to a Muslim as a Sunni or Shia, but simply as a MUSLIM

- An official policy will be adopted and a campaign will be launched to combat this sectarianism in all Islamic countries until it is vanquished and peace and brotherhood are restored.

This sectarianism is leading us straight into a dark abyss from which there is no coming back.

The danger that this sectarianism represents cannot be emphasized enough and drastic and proactive measures need to be taken by every Muslim to combat it and make sure that the Ummah can never be divided along the dangerous and artificial lines of Sunni and Shia. In order to achieve this, I would suggest even going further and ask young Muslims to make the following more significant commitments:

- If you are a Sunni young man, make a conscious decision for the sake of the Ummah to marry a Shia young woman.

- If you are a Sunni young woman, make a conscious decision for the sake of the Ummah to marry a young Shia man

- If you are a Shia young man, make a conscious decision for the sake of the Ummah to marry a young Sunni woman.

- If you are a Shia young woman, make a conscious decision for the sake of the Ummah to marry a young Sunni man.

This is the extent of the necessary commitment to save the Ummah from the assured destruction it is being led to by the dirty sectarianism and those who are behind it.

It is for this that we are asking all of you to sign this petition, to share it with others and do anything else you can to confront this unprecedented and existentialthreat for all us.
