My son also died from a heart arrythmia secondary to his heart condition that went undiagnosed. He would be 18 next week if they had only given him a implanted defibrillator.

Let us hope that your petition will help prevent another needless death because of medical errors.

At 16, I was diagnosed with Brugada Syndrome (a genetic heart condition). I was only diagnosed because my grandmother had a cardiac arrest 6 months prior. I had been fainting for about two years and had an extremely low heart rate but the doctors said it was because I was young, thin and extremely active (competitively rowing). If my grandmother wouldn't have gone into cardiac arrest, I would likely not be here today. I now have a ICD and pacemaker (also diagnosed with sic sinus syndrome), and my mother, sister, and two other family members were tested and diagnosed with Brugada syndrome. My symptoms were present and nothing was going to be done, until my grandmother almost died because of Brugada, Jess's story touched me and my heart goes out to her family and friends. What happened is not ok. Something needs to be done now. I hope Jess's story and everyone else who has been affected by medical error is heard and something is done about this. Thank you.

I am graduating soon from San Francisco State University with a BSN, Holistic Health Minor, and pledge to be mindful in my nursing practice, and will promote mindfulness in healthcare.
