Welcome Denali students, as many of you know, music is not an option during PLT anyone. Personally, I partly agree with the no music rule, as I still do see many advantages AND disadvantages in this. As previously mentioned by many teachers, music can be a big source of distraction that can prevent efficient work and study time. Although, music can also make working more efficient. According to a broad amount of studies about music, a few common patterns are that listen to music helps, as long as you enjoy the music AND don't think about it, meaning you're listening to it and liking it, but it's not being distraction, so that all of your attention is on studying and working, while focus isn't on the music. This can be a pretty hard thing to do with songs where people sing, as lyrics can something that easily get into people's heads. Although, again from a numerous collection of studies, wordless music seems to have a good effect on studies. For this reason, I think instrumental music should be an allowed choice for listening to music. If that's not enough, we could have a list of allowed music videos that we can listen to that are approved by our directors/teachers. That's it, thanks for reading my reason for this petition, thanks for your opinion! ;)
