Restore Funding for NYC Public Libraries!

Dear Mayor Bloomberg, Speaker Quinn, and City Council Members, NOW IS NOT THE TIME TO CLOSE THE BOOK ON LIBRARIES. As one of millions of users of The New York Public Library, I urge you to restore the $37 million cut that has been proposed to NYPL’s budget. This cut—the harshest in the Library’s history—would force neighborhood branches to close just when New Yorkers need them the most. Job seekers would lose resources to help them get back on their feet. Programs for children, literacy training, computer classes, and so many other services people depend on in these hard times—all would be slashed. One in three people now rely on libraries for computer use and free Internet access. PLEASE—restore funding so that our libraries can stay open. New Yorkers need libraries more than ever!
