The city officialy confirmed they are dropping the hotel proposal for 12th and Oread. It has been a long and draining fight but staying firm paid off in the end. Keep your eyes on the neighborhood because we need to remain watchful about whatever happens here next.

Help stop the construction of the Oread Inn. Here\'s why: Gene Fritzel Construction Co. is proposing to tear down the buildings at the corner of 12th and Oread, also known as the Crossing and Yello Sub. In its place, they will erect a seven-story tall, 105,000 square foot hotel. It is their intent that the hotel would cater to a higher end market, which we all know doesn\'t exist in this area. In addition, the developers are asking the city for $10 million in our tax money to fund the construction of a parking garage and for street improvements to handle the additional traffic which the development will bring. We students oppose the impact that the construction and operation of this building will have on the neighborhood in which we live, work and play. We believe that the development will have negative impacts on traffic, property values, quality of life and neighborhood cohesion. While we don\'t oppose any development at 12th and Oread, we do believe that the proposal being put forth is flawed, and disregards the students living in the areas adjacent to the development. We would like the city the carefully study and reconsider the development plans for this intersection. This petition will be presented before Student Senate Wednesday January 30th, and potentially sent with a finalized resolution to its recipients. Thank you.

The exhaustion is setting in but we are nearing two hundred and fifty signatures. This push is the only thing keeping our neighborhood from being ignored. Please push this link out to anyone you know so we have enough weight behind us for the upcoming meeting.

The emails I am sending to city officials are largely being ignored for now but that will not stop us from pushing back against this hotel project. Protecting the character of our neighborhood is exhausting work and I appreciate those of you who keep checking in despite the lack of clear progress.

The city needs to listen to the people who actually live here instead of just handing money over to developers.

10 million of our tax dollars for a hotel nobody around here can afford to stay at? complete joke.

The traffic there is already a nightmare during rush hour. adding a massive hotel is just asking for an accident.
