Why University of Roehampton is enforcing monopolistic position of an intermediary 'Flywire', which is using prohibitive exchange rates and hidden fees?

It is a gross misuse of power and lack of disclosure on the University's part not inform students beforehand the consequences resulted acquiring a third party service such as this. No thorough research was done and due diligence exercised. I sign this petition as a symbol of solidarity of students who are affected.

Roehampton does not take responsibility for any extra charge we need to pay through Flyware, however this is the University i pay for. Then who is responsible? it seems like dictatorship.. :(

UoR should provide more payment options. It should not have withdrawn the existing ones without having a replacement in place, thus forcing students to pay more than required.

I also now am paying more for each payment than what was originally quoted for the cost of my course because of the flywire fees. This is not at all acceptable. Also the fee fluctuates according to exchange rates. Previously I paid and got no extra fees. So some other company now is cashing in and making a profit from us. I have paid my fees because I was afraid of not being able to continue study, but next time I will have the courage to withhold my fees until the issue is resolved. I think UoR should reimburse students on the flywire fee, as now are fees are higher than the original quotation. So I do not understand why this has happened and am very disappointed.

I am from EU with EUR account. I do not have any extra fees, but the FLYWARE exchange rates are so unfavorable that it would cost me extra EUR 52 to use this payment platform. Simply, I am refusing to pay, after many of us will do same, this issue will definitely be a priority.

Flywire is not working especially for students who took a loan for a specific amount. I have to pay a lot of extra money when I signed a student agreement for a particular amount. I rather the old or a different system. Please I don't want this to slow down my progress.

I am not happy with the way the university is coercing us to use flywire. We are comfortable with the old system.

This FLYWIRE matter needs to be escalated seeing that the University is not forthcoming to address the serious concerns being raised. The Bursar and Students Support that is being referred to as the appropriate channel to handle this matter not only take their time to respond but their responses are quite arbitrary and dictatorial in nature as they continue coercing the students to rather use the current system the way it is. It is important to note that voicing concerns on this platform offers the University an exclusive opportunity to become aware of the students increasing discontent about this issue so as to contain it while it is still an internal matter. Failure to which, all possible avenues will be exhausted to afford justice to the students' community. We chose Roehampton because it is the best among others as it offered the best learning platform and a supportive climate. Now that we enrolled and are in a student/university relationship, no party has the sole right of altering the terms and conditions of the relationship/agreement without consulting the other as this has a potential to hurt and violate the rights of the other party. Roehampton just arbitrarily breached that and we as students have every to fight our rights.

Firstly, Roehampton should have warned the students beforehand about the sudden change to Flywire so that payments could have been made using the old methods. Secondly, not informing the students is unethical. Third, we need to get the old system back and running as soon as possible so that we can progress smoothly with our studies instead of worrying about how we can pay our tuition fees. Please bring back the previous payment options!

Flywire is not ready to handle the foreign exchange needs of Roehampton Online. Flywire has potential. However, it has not been tested in an environment where students pay regular fees from over 100 countries. Roehampton Online has been disappointing in how it has handled complaints on this subject. Some of us spoke up and asked for remedial action to be taken to resolve the challenges students were facing. The institution and its partners were non-challant and no conclusive response was given for the changeover. I am signing this petition because the university needs to do more than just shove a new payment system down students' throats. Over 100 complaints have been made on the student portal. And the university still remains unperturbed. This is not a good habit and it must end at some point!

In this age and era, Universities must be fair and considerate to their students. We need the old flexible system back. Let them introduce flywire as an additional option for those who are happy with it instead of forcing it on all of us.
