As students studying here at Warwick University, we would like to express our concern regarding the strikes. Because the University has failed to meet the very reasonable demands of the teaching staff, such as problems regarding pay, contracts and inequality in the workplace we are being denied the education that the university guaranteed to us when we agreed to pay £9250 per year.

We feel it is deeply unfair that it is the students whom you are supposed to be facilitating in their education that your inaction is harming.

We implore you to reconsider the demands of the teaching staff and the UCU.

We would also like to know how the university intends to compensate students for the ongoing damage that the university’s negligence has caused. We feel it is only fair that students who are missing out on teaching receive financial compensation.

Furthermore, we ask you to revise what you believe the function of a university should be. A university should not just be a profit-making institution, nor is it a consumerist market. Universities are a place for the sharing and development of knowledge, a place for both intellectual and personal development. We feel that the university’s current approach undermines this, as the welfare and wellbeing of the excellent teaching staff is compromised by cost-saving methods that are an insult to their good work.

We hope this petition expresses the student bodies solidarity and may help the university to adapt its current policy position so it may create a fairer and happier working environment for all those at the University.
