Students Ask Ohio Lawmakers to Remove Harmful Amendment

Please remove the amendment in HB 166 that would threaten our family and friends' ability to reach their education goals.

WGU is a life changer to those students who don’t have the time or money for traditional schools. It was created with the average working adult in mind and is also a great benefit to young parents, single parents and everyone in between. Stopping funding for WGU Ohio would potentially result in a number of people not being able to pursue their education.

Hello, I am a mother of four young children, I work part-time, I am a volunteer at my children's' school and my place of worship, I am wife, a friend, a sister, an aunt, and I am a proud full-time student at WGU. Going back to school has been something out of reach for me for quite some time, and Western Governors University's program has made it possible for me to attain a college education. I love being able to better myself. I love that I am gaining education to become a passionate teacher to uplift and educate my future students. I love that when I can go out in the workforce, I will be a more contributing member of my community, my state and my country. What I love most of all about my journey in attaining my education through WGU is that my children see me work and study hard. I love the example I can set for them, that there is nothing they can not do, and education is incredibly important. That would not be possible if it were not for WGU. Please do not choose disservice the thousands trying to become and do better for their family, community, state, and country. It is a dangerous and unfair precedence to set. Please stand by My WGU brothers and sisters and give them the full support by keeping funding in place for Western Governors University.

Why does Ohio always take a step or two backwards when it comes to education?

Students need access to education and money to help them. This bill is uncalled for unless some l lawmaker has a financial interest in other higher education schools. Time will tell.

I am a current student of WGU Ohio and this would eliminate all the progress I have made in the school. WGU is an amazing accredited institution that deserves to be renewed in Ohio.

As a alumni of WGU with a Bachelors and plans to return for masters. And a husband who will be attending WGU this year. HB 166 would throw a bomb on our education plans. Please remove the amendment in HB 166. We should be looking out for ALL student futures not just those that can attend a traditional college. Traditional colleges are not for everyone.

As a current WGU student with big dreams, this would completely derail my educational path. All that I have worked for would be for nothing. Saddening to think this could happen to so many others like me.

I received a BSN from WGU in 2017. I completed it in 3 semesters, at my own pace for under $14,000. It is an accredited program and has been highly acclaimed. Please reconsider this action. I would have never obtained my BSN in a brick and mortar school and was thrilled to go to a school where I could work at my own pace.

WGU in Ohio has been a great deal for my wife. It would be a shame to see the Ohio legislature let this go through.

I am a Ohio resident and without WGU I would not be able to complete my degree. As a working adult living in a rural area, I don’t have the time or money to attend traditional colleges. WGU makes it possible for me to earn my degree, making me more employable at a higher wage, and allows me the chance to contribute to my community.

Please remove the amendment in HB 166 that is most harmful to those needing financial assistance in order to complete their degrees.
