Student Representation – Support for Letter to Controller of Examinations, WBUHS(SIGN BY 28.02.26)
We, the Final Year MBBS Students (Batch- 2021) of WBUHS, respectfully wish to bring to your attention certain concerns regarding the implementation of the current examination SOP during the ongoing university examinations.
While we appreciate the need for strict discipline, the manner of enforcement in some centres— such as intensive frisking, close monitoring during restroom visits, and frequent interventions over minor movements— has caused considerable anxiety among students.
This academic session has already been particularly demanding. Noting the stark difference between the two batches (Batch 2021 & Batch 2022) that share the same number of subjects but noticeable difference in the session duration (attached herewith). For context, Batch 2021 got 11 months for the session duration while Batch 2022 got 17.5 months, while both the batch share the same number of subjects. Within this limited period, students were required to prepare 11 professional subjects, with the new additions of Otorhinolaryngology and Ophthalmology alongside the regular final year subjects. Added that the examination schedule was notified relatively late due to which the students were unprepared mentally to tackle the final prof examination.
Furthermore, the recent tragic suicide of a medical student, widely reported in the media, has deeply affected medical-student community, especially Batch 2021 before their exams. Many students are already under emotional strain.
In light of these circumstances, we humbly request a review of the current SOP implementation to ensure that necessary security measures remain firm yet non-intimidating, balancing discipline with students’ mental well-being and health.
We trust that the University will kindly consider these concerns and guide us through these harsh times with empathy and kindness.
Yours faithfully,
Concerned Final Year MBBS Students
