As a resident of Stuyvesant Town-Peter Cooper Village, and as one of New York State’s 2.5 million rent-regulated tenants, I am calling on you not only to renew, but also to strengthen the rent-regulation laws this year.
Renters -- like property owners --need to know what our monthly expenses will be. For many of us, a rent-stabilized apartment makes it possible for our families to continue living here.
I ask that you support strengthening of rent regulations
by ending vacancy decontrol. I also ask you to reject any proposal that jeopardizes hard-fought tenant legal victories— like Roberts v. Tishman Speyer.
We understand the strength and power of the landlord lobby and we need you to stand up in defense of the many renters who need your help this year.
I just looked at the screen and saw the counter tick over to one thousand which honestly feels surreal because I was just sitting in my living room tapping this out on my laptop between meetings. It is funny how these things start as just an idea in the back of your head and then suddenly you realize so many other people are actually feeling the exact same level of frustration with the rent situation right now.

I just looked at the screen and saw we hit a hundred signatures which is honestly kind of surreal because I started this while sitting on my couch eating cold cereal. It is wild that this many people are worried about the same rent hikes and the lobby influence that keeps us up at night but maybe now someone in an office somewhere will actually pick up the phone.

I just looked at the count and we are right on the edge of hitting one thousand so maybe just drag this link onto your feed while you are having your coffee or whatever because getting that number up right now would be huge for the meeting. Seriously this momentum feels wild and I keep refreshing the page like an absolute maniac because the lobby is already making moves and we have to beat them to the punch.
