no slaps on the wrist dont work, neither does prison most of the time. Rehabiitation, hope probabtion, things like that have a far better success rate than sticking a person in jail.
FYI, Josh Smazik is participating in Hope Probation and has been sober for over a year and currently is a productive member of our island. I do not support anyone who commits crimes because of thier drug addictions, but i will support someone who is able to turn thier life around, for themselves and their families. Im sure Joshes 5 year old daughter would agree with me since she now has her Daddy back.....I happens to be a close friend of her mothers

Kyle was guilty of many things, many crimes, and yes he is paying tremendously for his bad choice while totally addicted to drugs. Its a shame theres is many narrow minded people that seems to only focus on one small piece of the much bigger problem,
wich is kauais drug addiction. Many people in every town and community on kauai battle with addiction, many loose thier lives or thier family members. Yet no one trys to think of any solution other than lengthy prison term. Wich most times, only make people worse.....not help the root of the problem, the addictions to drugs. In jail its easier to get drugs and do drugs than on the streets..... and alot of these people come out of jail still addicted to drugs only to return to the same lifestyle as before.......
A complete waste of time and tax payers dollars. Its shame Kyle as well as any other addict whos serving time for crimes done while on drugs isnt given the opportunity to enter an inpatient rehab program like the 2 year program on Sand Island in Oahu. Im sure it would cost taxpayers alot less money than a 10 year prison term. and most likley it would be alot more succesfull in the long run, with people returning to society to be productive citizens rather than still battling a severe addiction that will only result in another prison term that taxpayers will be paying for

Also worthy of note is that Maile Hermstad was one of the other 3 arrested in the July-August 2012 time frame. Here is a paragraph from an article in TGI from August 16, 2012:
Through ongoing police efforts, multiple arrests have been executed, including the July 14 capture of 35-year-old Kyle Matsumoto and 31-year-old Maile Hermstad. Both individuals were arrested for first-degree unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle related to a car break-in at Waikoko Lookout last month.
Maile, you seem to have focused on the middle paragraph of the petition. We DO know more than the fact that crime in Princeville dropped when you, Kyle, Noel and Justin were arrested back in 2012. We are also aware of Kyle's considerable record of arrests and convictions. He is now up for sentencing one more time. We are just saying that enough is enough. Past leniency does not seem to have helped.
In case any of you have forgotten what is included in this round, here's a paragraph from a June 25, 2014 article in TGI:
Kyle Matsumoto, 37, pleaded no contest to first-degree burglary, two counts of second-degree identity theft, three counts of first-degree unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle, four counts of second-degree theft, third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug, credit card theft, unauthorized possession of confidential personal information, two counts of credit card fraud, credit card forgery, two counts of second-degree identity theft, and two misdemeanor charges.
This is not the behavior of a nice man that should be ignored.

Everyone deserves Justice and Kauai has tolerated this guy for to long. Give him 10 years and watch how fast this scum bag roles on his girl fried Maile who shouold be convicted for acessory and fencing stilen goods.

Honestly if and when a judge reads these comments on this petition hed disregard alot of signatures due to the fact that what your basing it upon is false information!!!!!those of you who continue to repeat that kyle had 114+ arrest id suggest you look again at the source of your information!!!!! if a person was arrested 62x for felonys and convicted 10 times ID HOPE they WOULD STILL BE IN PRISON you make the judicial syustem as well as the police force look like incompetant fools WHO JUST TURN A BLIND EYE TO PEOPLE WHO COMMIT NUMEROUS OFFENSES OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN!!!!!AND SET THOSE offenders free even after 100+ arrest!!!!! its amazing that people are so quick to beileve what other people say {most of wich is passed down thru the coconut wireless and basicly kauai gossip at its finest} without getting the facts from a reliable source!!!!!
ID SUGGEST TO THOSE OF YOU SPEAKING ABOUT KYLE, TO MAYBE LOOK INTO WHAT YOUVE BASED YR JUDGEMENTS ON AND MAYUBE A SOLUTION RATHER THAN FOCUSING SO MUCH ON WHAT YOU THINK TO BE THE PROBLEM!!!!
