We the undersigned, members of the University of Toronto community, do hereby petition the Governing Council to undertake the following resolution:
WHEREAS students at the University of Toronto are paying an ever increasing amount of money to study at this university, and
WHEREAS the Contract Faculty at UofT have almost no job security and are heavily underpaid, and the University is putting forward concessionary demands (including a wage freeze)
WHEREAS the Contract Faculty, Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 3902, has received a 70% support in a strike mandate.
WHEREAS the University of Toronto has not shown it's willingness to bargain in good faith around the Canadian Union of Public employees (CUPE) Local 3902, even in light of their very modest contract demands.
Be it resolved that in the event of a strike that all undergraduate, part-time and full-time, students be refunded the total amount of their tuition dollars for any lost lecture, tutorial or lab time by U of T.
Be it resolved that the University of Toronto management bargain in good faith with CUPE 3902 Unit 3 (Contract Faculty, etc) and immediately reach a dignified contract that benefits both students and contract faculty.
Be it further resolved that in the event of a strike, the University of Toronto immediately offer a dignified contract. All labour rights should be upheld and any solution should be found at the bargaining table.
The momentum behind this petition highlights a collective recognition that the current bargaining process requires immediate improvement. It is clear that the status quo is untenable for both the students and the contract faculty who sustain this institution.

My classes are literally taught by contract faculty and they are amazing. U of T needs to stop being so greedy and just pay them.

Tuition is already way too high for what we get. If they cant be bothered to pay staff a fair wage they should at least pay us back when classes are cancelled.

Bargain in good faith! Its not hard to treat people with some respect and pay them properly. We are tired of the games.

Just settle the contract already. We just want to finish our term without the stress of a strike looming over us constantly.
