The State of Florida has a gap in protection of children with disabilities. On the 26th of January, an autistic child with severe deficits in learning and communication, was mistreated by a school employee in Escambia County, FL. The pending charges are only misdemeanor battery and the defendant is out on $1000 bond. The entire incident was captured on camera. The State has penalties for assaulting the elderly and disabled adults, but there is a gap of protection for disabled children. All children are precious, but disabled children need MORE protection.
