The National School Lunch Program is allowing the waste of tax dollars as participants apply by inserting false amounts of income on the application. Right now no one even checks for proof of income, thus there is the ability to claim your household makes less than it actually does. Therefore, parents are mooching off of the system and allowing their children to receive free lunches, which is alright if you really cannot afford lunch from home. Unfortunately, too many people CAN afford to make lunch at home, but choose not to by getting into the National School Lunch Program which also offers breakfast and a snack too. Our tax dollars are taking the burden of parents free-riding off of this program when it is not necessary. If we reduce the number of students in the program to just the kids who actually need it, then our tax dollars can go to a much better use! Let's bring this issue further to light to get legislations that will increase the strictness of the application process.
