We, the undersigned, respectfully request that the historic courses at the AOH St. Pat's races in Anaconda be preserved. The 6 mile and 3 mile races have long been known for offering early season fast times, thanks to a combination of point-to-point net downhill design and (oftentimes) prevailing westerly winds. These features are part of the unique character, tradition, and appeal of this event.

The race continues to grow in popularity, and continues to attract some of the finest runners in the state -- in part, because of its position on the calendar as the semi-official start to the spring racing season, in part because of the great festive atmosphere the organizers have created over the years, but also because of its reputation for fast times and top-notch performances.

The deep history of the race has been carefully chronicled at the following website:

http://buttespissandmoanrunners.com/Butte%20Races/AOH%20Run/aoh_st_pat's_race.htm

These records allow runners to compete not only against their peers who show up that day, but also against their historic counterparts. By changing the race courses, these comparisons could no longer be made.

We understand that there are logistical challenges associated with bussing runners to the start lines, but we stand ready and willing to help find solutions to these challenges, including a reasonable increase in entry fees to help cover the costs.

Thank you for continuing to organize one of the premier races in Montana, and for considering our input.  We very much hope to hear from you soon about how we can work together to preserve these historic racing routes.

Sincerely,

fix the logistics if you have to but dont change the path. that downhill finish is iconic and it would be a shame to lose it

my family has run this for years. changing the route ruins the records and the whole point of the race being fast. leave it alone!!!!
