We the undersigned would like Yahoo to seriously consider changing their chat programming and/or take an aggressive stance against spammers in their chat rooms. We realize that their chat room is free and supported by advertising dollars. However, the spam in their chat rooms is reaching to an extent whereby it has already eroded any enjoyment by the users and casts a suspicious eye on those legitimate advertisers who\'s dollars assist in keeping this site free. While the content of this spam is not at issue, it is of an adult or pornographic nature and is indiscriminately being posted in all chat rooms regardless of a chat rooms content, orientation or topic specifications. Yahoo advertisers should realize that their legitimate investment in advertising dollars is being minimized by spammers whom are taking away business from them. While Yahoo has taken some steps in curbing this, the spam problem still grows worse. We who sign this petition support Yahoo, support free chat, support their advertisers and for the above mentioned reasons would ask the Yahoo Management Team seek a permanent resolution to this problem.

Updates

September 23, 2007

I have spent my evenings scrolling through the chat rooms lately and the constant barrage of inappropriate links is only getting worse. It is exhausting to try to have a real conversation when the screen is flooded with garbage every few seconds. I am still keeping track of every response and plan to forward these concerns directly to the technical team at Yahoo soon.

Seeing this grow so quickly fills me with hope that we can finally reclaim these spaces for actual conversation. It feels incredible to know so many of you are just as tired of the constant disruption as I am.
