BC Hydro is going to start installing Smart Meters this summer. These will replace our existing meters that measure the amount of electricity we use. There are a number if problems associated with the Smart Meters, including 1)Health issues regarding the amount of pulsed electromagnetic frequencies produced 2)Billing issues - some of the meters used have been overbilling customers 3)Safety issues - some of the meters have shorted out and caught fire 4)Privacy issues - the potential for hackers to access your private information 5)Smart Meters may actually increase carbon emissions (according to Reuters) As os February 2011, more than 28 communities in California have demanded a stop to the installation of Smart Meters.
