The council are once again trying to cut our SEN Transport. Our children all have autism and instead of picking up from home, they want our children to walk up to a mile from home in all kinds of weather, to a pick up point. These children all have lack of road awareness, a high level of sensory needs (which causes them enormous distress, if they get wet, cold, or hear loud noises such as traffic, dogs, drills, lawnmowers etc), physical difficulties that make it difficult for them to walk, many would be unwilling or unable to walk to a pick up point. Some of these children have epilepsy or hypotonia making it near impossible to walk. Some parents have two ASD children at different schools, meaning two pick up points, for these already stressed out parents. These parents also have younger siblings to get to school, making their lives that much more difficult. If you are more than a few minutes late the bus will not wait for you. Likewise if the bus is late because of traffic, you could be standing at a bus stop for some time in all weathers with a child that cannot cope with waiting. Some of these children also receive higher rate disability, meaning they cannot walk any distance without support. Please support our petition these cuts cannot happen, it is a basic human right that these children need and require transport to school in a safe environment.

My son has autism he is staying on post 16 at his special needs school he is unable to travel independently we still need transport for him yet now we have to pay we are currently in the process of trying to claim PIP he has been for his face to face but the assessor we felt was trying to catch him out it’s disgusting he is genuinely disabled if we don’t get PIP we don’t know how we can get the money for his transport we are on a very low income we like every other parent with a child with special needs just want the best for our child he is not ready to leave school this transport is a much needed service for disabled kids and should be properly funded and protected from cuts

my daughter has zero road awareness and would just walk into traffic if she got overwhelmed. this is a safety nightmare for the council to even suggest.

if they take away the door to door service my son will refuse to go to school he cant handle the sensory overload of walking through the estate with all the noise

who comes up with these ideas?? clearly people who have never looked after a disabled child. stop taking things away from the most vulnerable.

TOTAL MADNESS. trying to get an autistic child out the door is hard enough without forcing them to walk to some random pickup point in the rain. leave it alone.
