Pierre Loti Noise Complaint

I was surprised to learn that one of our neighbors lodged a noise complaint with the community board against the restaurant Pierre Loti at 258 W 15th Street. I live at 77 W 15th and work in the Google building on the corner of 15th and 8th Ave. and walk past the restaurant daily and eat there regularly. It is a quiet neighborhood restaurant/wine bar with an adult clientele and even in the summer with the few outside tables it is never noisy. It's just not that kind of place. A few night a week there is music (and the doors are closed during performances) - one night it's a trio with a violin, bass violin and acoustic guitar: hardly a noisy ensemble. One night this a Turkish group that plays 2 Turkish traditional string instruments; again pretty low key. I know that this neighbor has called the police on a few occasions and when they arrived they found no reason to issue any summonses - that should be a clear indication that the problem lies with the neighbor, not the restaurant. It is a shame that one troubled individual can abuse the system to the detriment of all those in the neighborhood that patronize the restaurant and cause the owner added cost and grief to operate what is an already challenging business. I would hope the community board and our elected officials recognize that this complaint is frivolous and dismisses it without further demands on the restaurant owner.

I have seen this complaint when it was filed with cb.nyc and I'm surprised it has escalated, not from actual disturbances, but from the tenacious efforts of what seems to be one person's vendetta against Pierre Loti (PL), at 258 W 15 Street. I live about 80 yards east, first floor street facing apt. I enjoy visiting PL on occasion because it's a mellow wine and tapas bar and thank goodness has some calming music a couple times a week. The clientele is mostly dates and some group dining. The owners are caring of both their customers and the neighborhood. I never know if anyone is inside until I open the door. On very busy 15th Street, with heavy traffic and incessant horns blaring, claims of excessive noise coming from PL are unfounded at best. I note that one person, who lives further east from PL than I do, says that he needs earplugs to silence PL. Would that be during the freezing past few months when everyone's windows are tightly sealed. My windows are often slightly open and I could not imagine hearing anything from 80 yards away. He goes on to say he has waged a campaign (hand outs and numerous calls to authorities). Somehow, when authorities did investigate, there seemed to be a lull in the noise he hates so much. Imagine that. I do, however, feel sorry for another person who claimed he could not walk his dog past PL because 'people were on the sidewalk'. Heavens! BTW, I hope he cleans up after. In reality, Pierre Loti provides a welcome respite for numerous employees (think G*****) and thankful residents on this 200 block of 15 Street. No one ever mentions the cacophony of Eighth Ave; and forget about 14th Street. So that leaves humble 15th Street where an aligned few people demand abatement of disturbance and disruption. Ridiculous. (unless one was scorned by a paramour, which changes everything) I hope that the various community boards can recognize the signs of a disgruntled neighbor, who has obviously elicited a few friends to

I live at 236 W 15th St, a little ways down the block. I often pass by the restaurant when coming home late in the evening, and although there are sometimes people outside talking and hanging out, the noise level doesn't seem excessive. Also, it's not far from 8th ave, a major artery for pedestrian and automotive traffic, which has its own near-constant noise. I certainly can't hear anything from outside my apartment, nor for most of the approach along the sidewalk, even when live music is taking place. Pierre Loti is a resource to many on the block, instilling a sense of community. it makes the neighborhood feel a lot less bland, and serves a very valid purpose.

To whom it may concern:

I have fought my own battle over the years regarding the noise from Pierre Loti. I have spoken to the owner at least twice and he is always genial and expresses concern and understanding. Nothing changes. I called the police department...no interest whatsoever. I contacted Christine Quinn's office and circulated hand-outs which I slipped under the door in to the lobbies of neighboring apartment building encouraging them to contact Ms Quinn's office. The Quinn office was responsive but contacting me at a time when there was a lull in the noise so there was nothing to investigate. I now keep a permanent supply of earplugs at my bedside as I have found my personal quest in trying to silence Pierre Loti Wine Bar to be an exercise in futility.

You must be stopped

Hello. I live at 243 W 15th street. Not that far down from Pierre Loti. I have been a friend and patron for 5 years now. It's like my second home. And the owners and staff make it feel that way, like home. Always welcoming, kind and giving to all. I've met many of my neighbors on 15th, at Pierre Loti, who have become great friends. It's a dense, crowded city, with millions of people living in tiny apartments and with barely any space. So, being able to hangout on the sidewalk cafe with friends, family, etc., enjoying some nice music and conversation, is a fun luxury and treat. This complaint is just rediculous. And very sad, for all who are complaining. First, we live in NYC. And in MANHATTAN. It's loud and noisy. If you want peace and quiet, move to the suburbs or somewhere else in the country. Or perhaps, upstate? Maybe a cabin in the woods. Seriously. You're definitely not NYers. Second, have any of you ever been to Pierre Loti? Met the owners and staff? I have to say, again, that they are all the kindest, sweetest, friendliest people I have met in NY. Have any of you sat outside and had a fabulous dinner and some cocktails or vino in the spring or summer or a cool fall night, while enjoying some fun jazz or Turkish music? Any season, for that matter. We talk and laugh and make friends! It's so nice!! Why do you want to ruin that? And to the guy who started all of this, shame on you. You need to move. Do your research somewhere else please. WE LOVE PIERRE LOTI!!! Yes, to the MUSIC! Yes, to the CAFE! Yes, to PIERRE LOTI!!!

I face the street side of west 15th to the east. I am tired of the noise from music and would like Pierre Loti to turn it down.....

What started out as a relatively quaint restaurant has become the scourge of the nie

I live on 253 W 15th across the street from this place. I have called several times to complain specially on Wednesdays and they usually answer that they will stop loud music at 1AM. I did my research and they are supposed to stop like music at 10PM. The phone calls are useless. Also there are always people drinking and smoking outside and very loud. I am pretty sure this coming Spring will be a nightmare. I can't sleep until 1:30AM because the night and wake up at 7AM. It is extremely unhealthy. For several years I never had this kind of problem here until this place opened and they started having those parties.

I have had to call 311 numerous times for noise complaints. I am unable to walk my dog in the evenings in front of their restaurant on many occasions because of all the people loitering out front. There is a constant flow of people coming into the restaurant and then hanging outside in front making a lot of noise as well as clogging up the sidewalk. They are detrimental to the neighborhood and destroying the peace and quiet many of us have enjoyed over the years. It is time for them to go.

I live across the street at 259 W15th in a front facing unit. The noise into late evening, especially during outdoor serving season, is annoying. Service outdoors after 9pm should be stopped.

The noise from this establishment has been very disruptive to tenants of our building. Pierre Loti should be able to operate their business while being respectful and keeping patrons inside, as well as the music low.

Many people have told me about this problem. This establishment is allowed to operate but they do have to have the courtesy of consideration of those around them.
