Fight the Hike! Stop the HST in Ontario!
Petition to the House of Commons in Parliament Assembled – Ontario HST Whereas, families across Canada and Ontario in particular have been hit hard by the recession and are looking for fair and responsible leadership and taxation policy during the recession; Whereas, the Government of Canada has offered the Government of Ontario $4.3 billion in federal tax monies as an incentive payment so as to precipitate the harmonization of the Provincial Sales Tax (PST) with the federal Goods and Service Tax (GST) into a new Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) in that province; And Whereas the new HST will raise the price of many goods and services in Ontario that are not now subject to the provincial sales tax, including gasoline, hydro, internet service, snow removal, and funerals by up to 8 PERCENT; WE THE UNDERSIGNED PETITIONERS call upon all Members of Parliament to support M-462 and urge the Government of Canada to immediately withdraw its incentive payment of $4.3 billion federal tax dollars to the Government of Ontario to implement the HST in that province, and to abandon all plans for promoting and enabling sales tax harmonization in Ontario moving forward.
