Network Rail do not need a license to fell trees, and are destroying the environment to avoid leaf-fall onto the track. In other countries this is not a problem, as trains are designed to move the leaves as they travel. A small number of trains in this country have been fitted with a water jet under the train to do this. Why not all of them I want to make it a legal requirement for trains to be fitted with a device to remove leaves from the track rather than decimating mature trees across the country. The felling of trees damages the habitat of thousands of insects and birds, increases noise pollution as the trees create a sound barrier, spoils the aesthetics of the area and adds to our carbon footprint. If all trains had to be adapted to move the leaves, this would not be a problem. If you share these views, please add your name and e-mail address to this petition. I will be sending it to parliament when I have enough signatures. Together we can effect change. Thank you.

I live in Great Sankey and was appalled to return home from work to find all the trees down one side of the road had been cut down. I have heard accounts of this happening all over the country. E-mails to a local MP, Lord Hoyle and phone calls to the council and Forestry Commission failed to come up with a solution, so I decided to set on the road of trying to get the law changed. I'd really appreciate your help...
