Calling for Support: Advocating for Indigenous Childrens Rights of Canada

The petition is a result of the Breach of Trust Report Saskatchewan. Many of the children in foster care or supervision care within Saskatchewan including Canada are First Nations Children. First Nation children have no voice, and they are being denied their cultural and traditional rights to remain within their mothers care, their community or appropriate care within their nation. The Child Welfare Act and legislation must be revised and First Nations People are requesting to Govern their own children. We want the paternalistic policies and programming to end - that control First Nations People of Canada. Child Welfare does not recognize our family protocols, traditions or culture and First Nations children are being denied their identity. The Inter-Provincial Policies and Child Welfare Act does not consider First Nations Children from out of province - their rights are ignored, denied, and unrecognized by Child Welfare. We seek support from the people to change the many layers of discrimination within the Child Welfare Act within provincial jurisdication and Federal legislation. We respectfully request jurisdiction of our First Nation children of Canada to stop the on-going cultural genocide by Child Welfare and Family Social Services Canada. Please support First Nations children and sign our petition.

I have been reading through the messages you all are leaving and the heartbreak in these stories honestly keeps me up at night because it confirms everything we already know about how the system ignores our families. I am spending my afternoons now drafting up a formal document to present to the local offices since they need to see that we are not going to allow our children to be erased like this anymore. It feels like a mountain of paperwork but seeing your names here gives me the tiny bit of energy I need to keep pushing forward.

Born in Medicine Hat in '53. I learned about this behavior about 20 years ago. Institutional racism is horrific because it breeds so many individual racists! When will we stop believing that there are racial distinctions. Race is a wicked social agreement made by people to justify their abuse of others!

So many families destroyed by these laws. We have our own ways to take care of our own and we deserve the right to do that.

Been watching this for years in SK and nothing changes. The system is rigged against indigenous families and its time we hold them accountable.

Sickening how the system works. It feels like they just want to erase our culture one kid at a time. Glad to see someone finally calling them out on this.

My grandmother went through the residential schools and now this. Its the same cycle all over again and it breaks my heart to see it still happening to our babies.

THEY NEED TO STAY WITH THEIR FAMILIES. Its not right for the govt to just swoop in and take kids away because they dont like how we live. Keep our kids home.
