Stop Deportation of U of T Student and Family
To: Minister of Immigration The Honourable Diane Finley, P.C., M.P. Citizenship and Immigration Canada Ottawa, Ontario K1A 1L1 Minister@cic.gc.ca (519) 429-3382 1-877-721-8683 Dear Minister Finley, I am shocked to hear that there is a removal order against Shammi and Badrul Alam and their son UofT student Saad Alam. I am asking that you use your discretion under section 25 (1) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and suspend the removal order against his family, until a decision on their Humanitarian application is made. I also ask you to look favourably upon their Humanitarian Application and grant them Permanent Status in Canada. At the very least, I ask that you issue a temporary resident permit or minister's permit to Saad so that he may continue his studies. Saad's family has resided in Canada for over 5 years now and they have worked very hard to build their lives here. Badrul works as a security guard and cab driver, and Shammi in two nursing homes as a personal support worker, as well as for the Canadian Red Cross, to pay Saad's tuition. Badrul writes for the weekly Bangla Kagol newspaper in Mississauga, and Saad and Badrul also co-teamed to launch the youth magazine Probashi Tarunno, a magazine which captures the many voices of South Asian youth. Saad won a scholarship to the University of Toronto Mississauga, where he was vice-president of the Bangladeshi Students' Federation. It is unfair that a family that has worked so hard to build a life for them self here, both within and outside of the Bangladeshi community, is being deported, especially since the family has requested that Saad at least be able to complete his education before returning. Education should be accessible to all students, regardless of status. I ask your assistance in making sure this happens for Saad and other students like him! Thank you. Sincerely, The Undersigned
