In November of 2010 the poultry slaughterhouse in the community of Ramsay, Calgary expanded their loading yard and installed a second entrance into their facility.

The slaughterhouse is a "grandfathered" facility and is restricted by the Municipal Government Act of Alberta, in that it is not suppose to be expanding. The slaughterhouse has been "grandfathered" since 1980 and over that time they have built chicken barns, added a second story, purchased residential homes, and, most recently, increased their loading yard on to land leased from Canadian National Railways. We, the signers of this petition, are asking The City of Calgary, the authority charged with enforcing the Municipal Government Act, to please enforce existing laws and stop the expansion of the slaughterhouse within our community.
