The goal of The CigSmasher project is to change the law of cigarette pollution. Cigarettes are the number one most polluted item in the world. Lots of people think that cigarette pollution is okay, it makes the city look hardcore, it's not really a big deal, that kind of stuff. There is a huge problem. Cigarette butts, when littered, can get into storm drains. Some people actually drop their cigarettes into storm drains. They can then flow into rivers or any other body of water. Then fish and other animals can consume them, leading to death.
They can also poison the water with chemicals like cyanide, a poison that can kill within 30 minutes, methanol, used in rocket fuel, and methane, a highly flammable and poisonous liquid. As you can clearly see, the cigarette butt is like a tiny pack of toxins, that, once in the ecosystem, can wreak havoc. Tumors found in baby turtles have led to cigarette pollution on Maui beach.
Our goal is to get the Michigan No Smoking Law extended to include public beaches, where cigarette butts have the highest chance of affecting the environment faster. Cigarettes are littered by the trillions every year. This horrible trend has got to stop, for the sake of Mother Earth. Hopefully, you agree with us.
Sincerely,
Members of The CigSmashers
I am honestly overwhelmed by how many people care about this issue. This momentum belongs to you because I never imagined so many people would join this effort to protect our water and wildlife.

Every beach in MI is covered in these things. Its disgusting to walk in the sand and find more butts than seashells. Clean it up.

People who smoke on the beach need to learn personal responsibility. Bring an ash tray or dont smoke at all. Trash.
