Rural Arizona water is not for sale. Rural Arizona water belongs to the people of Arizona, and more to the point, it belongs to the locals. Conserve the water, preserve the people.

Salome is a growing community as the Wickenburg area spreads west. Depleting our water will cripple that growth and the livelihoods of thousands of people who live here. Many who have just bought property here within the last several years, like myself.

Families and small businesses in our community understand how vital our groundwater is. It’s a limited resource, and we use it carefully because once it’s gone, it’s gone. Transporting this water to Phoenix to fill swimming pools, wash cars, and water golf courses puts our private wells at risk of running dry. Many of us would be forced to haul water or move, because drilling deeper wells simply isn’t affordable. And if we’re forced to move, who would buy property that no longer has access to water?

At past meetings in Salome, long time residents stated their residential/rural wells up to approx 200 feet deep were already having water supply issues. Due to high water usage from 1500 to 2000 ft wells drilled & used for agricultural purposes by Fromdemonte Farms. WAM drilling additional wells & pumping significantly more water than used for agriculture will lower aquifers even more. When rural residents & smaller communities lose water supply & cannot drill deeper wells due to finances, would properties become vacant? Would such losses not negatively affect the tax basis of the county?

Water "transferred" is gone forever. When water is used for crops, the excess goes back into the ground to be used again. Why should residents here lose so investors there can make money? No. Cities need to look elsewhere for their water.

We are asking for responsible sustainable water use by all users. We are asking to be included as a valuable and deserving part of arizona's rural back country future. Sending our only source of water (life) to develop other areas will see our decline and disappearance while others thrive. We exist and should also share in the ability to grow and prosper.
