Chicago can be one of the liveliest places in America and also one of the deadliest. Chicago is not as safe as they used to be and that should be changed. There is no reason why citizens should be afraid to walk around their own neighborhoods; afraid that they may end up robbed or worry about being one of the many lives that account for the steadily increasing murder rate. Chicago was ranked #30 for violence less than four years ago. Its murder rate was three times higher than that of New York City's. Englewood alone has a murder rate of 2,750 per 100,000 people. This is almost four times higher than that of the city, St. Louis which was proclaimed the most dangerous city in the nation. It's horrible that this one neighborhood has a higher crime rate than an entire city. I think that for the benefit of its citizens that there should be an action taken to substantially decrease this number and keep Chicago from returning to the number one spot as most dangerous city in the nation. The goal of this petition is to show that more than a few people care about the safety of this city's residents. With Superintendent Garry McCarthy's help we may be able to lower this murder rate and lower the amount of funerals attended. I urge you to sign this and improve the conditions in which you live.
