Stop Unnecessary Uniform Changes at Marian College 2012
On the 21st of October 2011, the Marian news first informed the Marian community that the whole of the student body had to comply with new uniform changes in 2012. The following changes are: • That the only school shoes that students will be able to wear are lace up shoes – no t-bars or alternative options will be acceptable. • That hair needs to be tied back. This petition is the opportunity for the community to oppose to the new changes to be undertaken in 2012. The concerned Marian students would like to draw your attention that: • We assume you, the Co-principles of Marian College, to allow fair negotiations regarding these new implications in an expeditious manner. • We are content with the current school uniform policies and although we understand these new changes have been made with the best intentions, these new impositions simply don’t prevent the inevitable spread of head lice, and the event of an accident. • We are opposed to the new changes in the school uniform for 2012; we find it unfair that these new rules have been imposed on the student body without the consultation of student leaders. Students generally are prepared for and understand that they need to be careful of themselves during certain situations. It is unnecessary for the whole of the student body to enforce certain safety regulations when they aren’t needed. The petitioners therefore request that you: • Negotiate with the student leaders and the community of these new guidelines. • Retract the new uniform changes.
