The University of Canterbury is planning to change postgraduate printing and photocopying allowances, following zero consultation with students or student bodies.

Postgrads are extremely concerned about the change to printing charges on a number of counts, largely based around the following:

· Two-weeks’ notice for a change of policy that can have significant financial implications on students is unacceptable.

· When postgrads for certain departments enrolled they were told printing would be free for them. They are concerned that this can be changed in the middle of their study. Moreover, we believe making such a change without consultation may be illegal.

· Despite pledges that all students will be charged the same, there are rumours that some departments have told their students they will foot the printing bill, whilst others will not.

We, the undersigned, demand the following:

In the first instance, we expect to have the current policy change postponed from being implemented on 29th August, due to the severe disagreement with the policy change among the postgraduate student body.

In the long term, we expect a thorough and open consultation on changes to postgraduate printing allowances.
