PETITION To Legislative Assembly of the Parliament of Western Australia to have the triple road trains not be permitted to travel from Wubin to Muchea, and that the Bindoon Bypass should be completed as soon as possible.

To the Honourable the Speaker and members of the Legislative Assembly of the Parliament of Western Australia in Parliament assembled.

We, the undersigned, say

"that the permission given to trucking companies to bring triple trailers from Wubin, to Muchea, through the township of Bindoon should not have been allowed."

Now we ask the Legislative Assembly to have this permission rescinded, and plans made to complete the Bindoon bypass be recommenced as soon as possible to reduce the risk to the population of Bindoon. We also request that all traffic should have their speed monitored and the speed limit in the town reduced.

Reason

1. The stopping distance required by these vehicles makes it dangerous to all road users, and particularly pedestrians, in a 60 klm zone.

2. In Bindoon not all services are located on the same side of the road requiring pedestrians, traffic, school children and the elderly to cross the Great Northern Highway within the town site.

3. Already the dual trailers do not obey the speed limit within the town and as they leave the town they accelerate approaching the 90 klm limit, causing distress to motorists entering the southern housing development as there is no turning lane there and many of the road trains pass motorists on the wrong side of the road.

4. Speed through the town is rarely monitored by the police, and ostensibly not adhered to by many road trains.

5. Road train drivers are not patient and as there is a lot of caravan traffic on the road, they become very impatient.

The road surface through the town is inadequate for the loads it is carrying. For example repairs to the Great Northern Highway, at the junction of Hibbertia Way, were made recently by main roads and within 6 days further repairs were necessary. This area is still dangerous.
