Stop the Virgin Oxford Marathon

The fact that this event was ever approved in the city concerns me. Londoners are used to noise, not driving, and crowds: Oxford residents are not. Liz Wade is doing admirable job in trying to fight for our rights and I think it's time we let Virgin know to take their event elsewhere. Please write to them, and consider donating to local charities like the hospices so they won't need to raise money this way.

It is not acceptable that people are imprisoned in their own homes against their will (wherever this marathon is held). The cause may be worthy but in this case the ends do not justify the means.

This year's organisers claim to be distributing 9,500 leaflets to households that will to varying degrees be inconvenienced by the half-marathon --more than 30,000 individual residents. This already unacceptable inconvenience will be made intolerable by a full marathon.

I am somewhat disabled after a serious accident and will be confined to my home by this road closure.

I am a resident of Charlbury Road, and think it is most unjust that I should be confined to my house for the benefit of a commercial organization which is promoting a marathon. It is surely the duty of the council to protect the citizens of Oxford from such treatment.

It is totally inappropriate to hold an event of this type in a residential area. Many residents 'kettled' in their homes, disruption to emergency services.

This causes complete chaos in the town and prevents people making lawful excursions and journeys.

Enough is enough, disruption to Oxford is unacceptable - find a disused airfield to run round

Inappropriate in a small city where residents can in effect become imprisoned

Please stop our council for renting out the public roads to enable people to make money.
