We have done everything possible to modify the Virgin Half Marathon, which was transferred without public consultation to Northern and Central Oxford in 2015.
The Half Marathon race has resulted in residents being 'kettled' in their homes for up to five hours, poor and incorrect street notices, and plastic rubbish left uncleared.
We are now told that the CEO of Virgin Sport is planning 'the world's greatest marathon' for Oxford 2018: bands, DJs and 10,000 runners over a 26.2 mile course. There has been no public consultation in advance of this announcement.
We ask Oxford City Council to refuse Virgin Sport's application for a Marathon Race in Oxford.
This year's organisers claim to be distributing 9,500 leaflets to households that will to varying degrees be inconvenienced by the half-marathon --more than 30,000 individual residents. This already unacceptable inconvenience will be made intolerable by a full marathon.
