Plastic bags may be handy and efficient when shopping, however they don't have the same affect on the environment. Plastic Bags are not biodegradable. When they are thrown away they end up in rubbish dumps where it takes centuries to break them down into smaller pieces that still harm the environment. When plastic bags are buried in land fills they can leach harmful chemicals and find way into groundwater. Though plastic is "recyclable" its not like paper or cardboard. We can keep melting the plastic down and reusing it but the plastic that we have created will stay on this earth forever. It may not be affecting us too bad now but it will! Plastic and its chemicals can also affect soil fertility, this could affect our crops and make food scarce. We need to do something to stop this already extreme situation from reaching levels of destruction. Speak up and stop the use of plastics before its to late! A solution could be having the option for paper bags in shops.
I am honestly overwhelmed by how many people have joined this effort because I truly did not expect this level of response. This movement belongs entirely to the people who took the time to read and agree that we need a change. Thank you for placing your faith in this cause.
