The proposed $425 million Tyre casino will cost us our town’s
heritage and future. Short term, it will create enormous traffic
congestion and massive construction noise and pollution. Long term, it will
drastically change the character and natural beauty of our community. It will
bring no new state tax revenue, while leaving residents beholden to an out of town developer who
only wants to use our land to enrich himself.
The developer and town officials have kept secret much of
the negotiations over the proposed casino. It’s exactly this kind of backroom,
wheeling dealing that comes with commercial casinos, opening the door to even
greater corruption here in a community that has for generations relied on trust
and transparency.
Our way of life is special. And we know that Tyre and the
surrounding areas need jobs and economic growth. But this casino is NOT the
answer. It ignores careful community planning and the town’s recently completed
comprehensive blueprint for the future that focuses on protecting agriculture,
open space and sustainable commercial development.
This
casino is an assault on rural communities likes ours. If it’s built, we will
lose control of our own community and everything that makes it special. Please
join us in telling the politicians to STOP THE TYRE CASINO!!
a casino may bring jobs, but it will also bring the filth of gamblers, crime, and the jobs that it will bring are not the types of jobs people can support their families with.
