I agree that the superintendent should not have authority to limit the educational experience of our kids so my comment is only regarding the way the document is worded as it doesn’t seem to me to read as a petition that would be sent to administrators. Where are the “demands” and to whom will this be sent?

This decision by the superintendent and the mayor was in total disregard to the best interest of our children. If this decision goes through I have lost all confidence in the superintendent and the mayor and anyone else who supports this decision within the Scope of decision-making. Smith vocational and agricultural high school is an outstanding high achieving educational institution of Which prepare students for the workforce at the get-go as well as to go on for higher education with an unmatched success rate. Not only that there are many students that go on that cannot afford college, and for those students who Graduate with their skills and with job placements from the start, Is a success in itself. This decision to pigeonholed choices is a total disservice to the children And their the future. Educators especially the superintendents Responsibility is to prepare students for the future Opening all doors, not closing them as this decision would do.

As a Smith Voc Alumni, I can say that a vocational education was one of the best choices of my life. I am still doing carpentry after graduating 33 years ago. Parents and student NEED choice. A one size fits all approach does not work, especially in education.

I am a Smith Vocational graduate. And i don't agree with the way the ctech program works you're taking more time away from a students learning by bussing them back and forth. Stop teaching kids to take tests, stop telling them that they can only be successful if they attend college. Just remember that with all the degrees you have. You still need someone in a trade to build your house, fix your plumbing, repair your electrical issues, keep your heat and AC working. SVAHS!

As a Smith Vocational Alumni I feel that we as parents should make the decision on what is best for our child, which is Smith Vocational.

I think smith voc should be allowed for school choice. Ctec is by far a lesser education.

Parents should have the say where their kids have an option to go to school. After all, we are the parents! WE know our children’s capabilities. WE know what learning environment works.

I am in full agreement. I support a traditional vocational education. It seems to me that the 1/2 day rotation is far too disruptive for students. It also seems that it would require far more from students in their free/non school time in order to keep them on track to meet the state requirments to graduate.
