The Western Australian Government has revealed plans to allow fishermen to catch and kill any large shark spotted, including the Great White and Tiger shark, in an attempt to protect visitors and the tourist economy of the area. Sign the petition to prove that demonizing the animal is not the answer, and that what is needed is education and awareness of the fact that the problem has only arisen from ecologically insensitive development infringing on the sharks' natural habitat. How can an animal be killed as a punishment for, considering the circumstances, only natural behavior?

Side-stepping the ethical issues, the government is forgetting that sharks bring in a large amount of money in the form of tourism, from visitors hoping to catch a glimpse of the spectacular creatures. Without large predators the marine ecosystem will become imbalanced, leading to almost exponential growth in the usually predated consumers, and will in turn lead to over-feeding of other organisms. Please sign to protect the future of Western Australia's shark population and marine ecosystem.
