Side-stepping the ethical issues, the government is forgetting that sharks bring in a large amount of money in the form of tourism, from visitors hoping to catch a glimpse of the spectacular creatures. Without large predators the marine ecosystem will become imbalanced, leading to almost exponential growth in the usually predated consumers, and will in turn lead to over-feeding of other organisms. I have submitted a formal request for meetings with the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development to present the ecological data gathered here. Local news outlets are looking into the recent permits issued for the cull and I will provide links to coverage as it becomes available.

The growth of this petition has reached a level that warrants direct engagement with the Department of Fisheries. I am currently finalizing a formal request for a meeting to present the data on ecosystem impacts mentioned in the proposal.

sharks belong in the ocean its their home we are the ones invading their space. stop killing them for our own mistakes!!
From what i have previously heard about this issue, its absolutely disgraceful and i thoroughly object
End this silly practice now
Leave these magnificent creatures alone - the sea is their domain not ours.
Do not upset nature's balance; stay out of their home (the water).
This is a disgrace! Tourism is not more important than a life!

As usual, interfering with the ecosystem will only make things worse. Every creature has a purpose and should be allowed to live in peace.
