The world's first cavitation tunnel was built in Newcastle in 1895, marked the beginning of research into cavitation phenomenon. Such a shame that this horrible situation with unplanned tunnel reallocation is happening in Newcastle now.

Excellent work done by the staff and students using the Emerson Cavitation Tunnel is one of the pinnacles of UK's experimental work in the field of marine propulsion. Disrupting it will be detrimental not only to the Newcastle University but also to the global impact of the whole of UK's maritime research

A relocation is a complicated operation, with great risk of not getting a well-functioning lab afterwards. Also, it is clearly very valuable to have laboratories located close to the main users, being scientific staff and graduate students.
