The parents action league are a group of citizens from the Anoka Hennipin district. On their website it says that their goal is to "ensure that our schools remain focused on core academics." It also says that they support the district 11 bullying prohibition policy which states "An act of bullying, by either an individual student or a group of students, is expressly prohibited on Anoka Hennepin School District property, at school related functions, or in electronic form otherwise known as cyberbullying. This policy applies not only to students who directly engage in an act of bullying but also to students who, by their indirect behavior, condone or support another student’s act of bullying.....No teacher, administrator, other employee of Anoka Hennepin School District, volunteer, contractor, or bus driver shall permit, condone, or tolerate bullying." Bullying of any kind, for any reason, towards any child must NOT be tolerated." Note: Respectfully disagreeing with a point of view or behavior is not bullying per the First Amendment. At first glance they seem like a great group of people. They just want to make sure their children are getting a great education and that they are not being bullied. In reality they are a group that are trying to keep the Anoka Hennepin neutrality policy. The neutrality policy is basically a policy that says teachers and administrators have to remain neutral on gay issues and that they shouldnt talk about it in the class room. Seeing as the Anoka Hennepin has a huge problem with homophobic bullying i believe this should be talked about more. I mean there has been many suicides from that school and many of those students were known to have been picked on for being gay. I believe something should have been talked about and done before something as drastic as suicide happened. The Parents Action League wants to shield their children from the real world. Children should learn now that there are homosexuals and transgendered people out there. They need to learn to accept that fact and not learn that homosexuals are bad or weird. They need to learn that homosexuals shouldnt be treated differently just because they arent like what other people believe they should be. The Parent Action League said the reason homosexuals are gay are because of many developmental issues. Some of those include "dysfunctional family relationships, experimentation with men or boys, incest, negative body image, peer labeling and harassment, temperament, exposure to pornography, not bonding correctly with your own gender parental figure, abandonment, early trauma such as sexual victimization, and media influences." THey also said "The media certainly has had a powerful influence on youth today with the endless positive promotions of homosexuality in the movies and on television. This influence combined with the fact that young people sometimes feel the need to belong to a “tribe,” often leads vulnerable, insecure students to identify themselves as “gay.” This gives them a banner to march under—a banner, however, that leads to unhealthy behavior that can have disastrous consequences." I am in shock that they are saying the reason homosexuals are the way they are is because of sexual trauma and a need to belong. They are saying being homosexual is a "developmental Issue." Obviously the Parents Action League is not just a group that wants to make sure their children get a good education. They are trying to stop the gay equality movement and it is in return promoting the continuation of homosexual bullying. By signing this petetion hopefully it will help to stop gay bullying and make homosexual students feel happy to go to school and not scared that they will be picked on.
