Barratts are proposing to build 286 houses on the field opposite the memorial garden. This alone would increase the size of the village by approximately 45%. We don’t have the transport or facilities to support such a large development, unlike Seaton Delaval or Seaton Sluice.

Whilst some people will be all for this expansion, there are many against. You still have time to object and your views are important.

One of the reasons behind this site being chosen was its locality to the A19…

There was no mention on the additional traffic, that nearly 300 houses would bring (considering nearly every home these days has at least two cars!!)

How long will these houses take to build and should the planning permission be approved?

Currently, between New Hartley, Seaton Delaval and Seaton Sluice there are

limited child places within the schools. Not to men-tion the current parking situation and daily strug-gles a lot of us have dur-ing term time. Could you imagine an additional 300 cars?

Importantly, what about the wildlife that will be disturbed and have to relocate due to these proposed plans? Or the fact that back in 1862 our little village changed the mining legislation, when 204 men and boys and 40 ponies lost their lives in a disaster directly underneath the pro-posed building site. Where is the respect for our history and all those people who lost their lives?

There is still time to act and contribute your opinions and objections on this proposal!!
