STOP the MILE HILL RD ONE WAY Proposal. Public Meeting Jan 11, 2023 Sports Complex 4-6pm.

Need a better solution than a Mile Hill 1 Way. The whole area needs speed deterrents. Washington Street, Mile Hill Road, Powerline Road, they all need to be slowed down. This proposal does not make anything safer for anyone. I'm an avid walker and I would never walk on a road that only has a rumble strip between me and speeding vehicles. There are many safer places to cycle and walk that will still get you to the same place. This proposal has so many things wrong about it. It's almost like they tried to slip this through so no one opposed it or even knew about it. How about getting input from members of the community that use the road and create some ideas from them instead of wasting money on a sham consulting group who clearly has no grasp on the effect this will cause on the larger community. The county paved Mile Hill Road years ago to allow for all the traffic to get through town when they reconstructed King Edward , Rest Acres Road - it was ok to be a two way road for all that wasn't it ? County has allowed this to be a fast moving road by paving it and not doing anything to control it and now they are proposing a cheap change that will cause it to be an even faster road and less safe. Nice work !

One way up would take considerable pressure off Washington street !!!

Perhaps make the street one way based on a traffic light.

Save our bloody tax dollars and put them into fixing the disaster you've created downtown with that ridiculous traffic light!!!

We strongly oppose this considered change. Two way traffic has been available for YEARS, don’t spew the crap about progress. Referring to progress similar to the idiotic barn dance in the downtown core, let’s not forget the speed bumps that pedestrians risk their lives crossing the street because “pedestrians give the right of way to vehicles”. Learner Driving 101 “The Pedestrian always has the right of way” but not in Paris. This town is beyond ridiculous! Yes, I Voted in the last election but not for these knuckleheads. (Rant over!)

Living at the bottom of the hill means this forces me to drive all the way through downtown just to get home from the 403. Total nightmare for traffic flow. Use your heads for once.

The creation of a one way street and pedestrian/cycling paths on Mile Hill Road seems to be a rushed solution to a growing traffic problem in Paris. Our community is growing in population and Mile Hill Road is beautiful and attracts bikers and pedestrians for the challenge it physically represents and the forest like atmosphere. Presently, the narrow two way road presents safety challenges for pedestrians and cyclists, as well drivers that tend to speed and cheat on the lanes. I am concerned that creating it a one way street and encouraging more pedestrian/cycling traffic will combine into a tragic situation. Without a strategy to stop drivers from speeding, drivers will continue to cheat on the narrow lanes and the blind turns could cause more serious accidents/ collisions between families walking the hill and cyclists.. I do not want to see any loss of life on this street. I strongly ask what kind of traffic monitoring studies have been done on this road. How many councilmen and county employees would like rumble strips installed in their neighbourhoods. These are designed for highways, not suburban neighbourhoods. To be blunt, this road, although beautiful should not encourage and probably should discourage pedestrians and cyclists using the hill. Other safer avenues could be planned in our community for this purpose. Mile Hill Road should remain a two way road with photo speed enforcement. Do not create this road as a multipurpose/mixed use. After living on this road for 4 years I can attest that multi use mix may sound like a solution, but in reality it is not realistic to the behaviour I witness daily and I am afraid it could end in tragedy. Not even one accident is acceptable. Your jobs are to keep Paris residents safe. Let’s explore other options and roads that can achieve your provincial mandated goals.

The County's solution will make Mile Hill Road "more dangerous" than it currently is while creating a significant amount of Noise Pollution. More Dangerous: Converting Mile Hill to a one-way road will turn it into a Super Speedway as drivers will now know that they don't have to worry about oncoming traffic. Drivers already race up and down the hill knowing that there is, "oncoming traffic". If you take the oncoming traffic risk away, those that are inclined to speed are going to drive even faster. It will become an unmonitored, Drag Strip. If the goal of this project is to ensure the "comfortable and safe movement of all road users", converting Mile Hill to a one-way road is not going to achieve the stated goal. This change will make Mile Hill more dangerous, not less. Noise Pollution: The County's proposed use of "Rumble Strips" will create significant noise pollution. Rumble strips are designed to create noise and vibration so that a driver becomes aware that they have veered slightly from the desire path. Rumble Strips coupled with "narrowing the roadway" will create constant noise as drivers will inevitably hit them on every turn. All we will hear is the constant buzz of the rumble strip. Whether we are in our homes or in our yards. The County has to find a solution that preserves the "quiet and peaceful enjoyment" of all neighboring homes and yards. A better answer is required.

This is ridiculous. Cut 10 feet into the Hill on the west side for a sidewalk big enough for those who seem to need this avenue of pedestrian usage. And if it can't be done because of the old Gypsum mines, then how does the road remain?? But hey, the lack of mobility will mean Police response times will be severely lacking. Then crime rates will climb and property values will drop.

This proposal does nothing to slow traffic down on Mile Hill Rd. It will inconvenience many residents and will add to the congestion towards downtown Paris. Make a better effort at a real solution for everyone please !

I'm going to have to drive around town to get to the Arena . When I live on the hill. Why create more traffic and burn more gas . This makes no sense...
