The residents have asked for a basic improvement within a budget that currently exists. They have not asked to become a major transit exchange - one that likely has with it a magic mix of 'Alphabet City' strings from the state. By increasing the bus station by such a magnitude, what does this target Novato for from the state or County? I support the residents of Novato who want the bus station fixed to address the safety issues and remain at the current volume. Residents do not want to spend more for expansion they do not want.

Regarding the Novato Bus Station 8/30/2014 First, I agree with Al Dugan and Bob Ratto and others. Transportation bus funds are connected to high density so there is no guarantee that 4-6 story buildings such as WinCup will not be built. Instead of being threatened with the one-half mile rule that high density housing must be built near new transit bus and train stations there are alternatives to keep Novato suburban. Instead of spending 3-4 million of our tax dollars for this project, better, safer, and less expensive solution for the bus stop is in beautifying and upgrading the area as a small town bus station. The two shelters need new roofs. The crosswalks to and from the shelter need painting. The three foot high concrete at the beginning of the walk needs a well-designed opening. Adding a few lights is beneficial. Stop waste. Why are 4-5 millions of dollars and plans being supported by Judy Arnold and Novato for urbanization when there are other needs? There have been no accidental run overs, no drunkenness, no loitering according to the police records to my knowledge in the last 22 years of living in Novato. Transportation bureaucrats in non-elected positions have 4-5 million tax dollars to waste and our council agrees to waste it on a superficial, urbanized design for more buses to go three minutes faster. The unions want the station because of jobs; they could better redirect their support for our elected officials by advocating for better roads, sewers, water, and schools. There are not even that many buses per hour in many parts of San Francisco's Financial District! Bus riders need to use the crosswalks and traffic lights for safety. Drivers need to remain cautious near the existing bus 'station' in downtown Novato. I have not seen or experienced a need for a larger facility downtown..

The "high capacity" bus station is overkill. The safety improvements which are actually needed should be completed with the funds already in hand.
This "Bus Station" is really a major Transit Hub that will increase traffic, crime and density in the middle of a major road crossing in the center of Novato. It is not needed to serve the communities needs and if you want to see the negative impacts that will be created by giving the SF homeless community direct access to our downtown, go see what it has already done to ruin downtown San Rafael.

I FIND THIS IDEA APALLING. WHY DOES THE COUNCIL CONTINUE TO MAKE DECISIONS THAT TAKE AWAY THE LOVELY SMALL TOWN FEEL THAT NOVATO OFFERS. IF I WANTED TO LIVE NEXT TO A BIG, NOISY BUS HUB, I COULD GO TO SAN RAFAEL. IF THIS PASSES, THE NEXT CHANGE IN THIS TOWN WILL BE THE MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL. I'M TIRED OF NOT BEING HEARD!

Why is the Novato city council trying to turn our town into another San Rafael? Maybe the city council should spend a few hours at the San Rafael station and see the scum it brings to that city. We do not want or need it here! As well as save about $4million bucks.

This is not the first time that Pat Eklund has been the only member of the City Council to show some sense.
