Stop the Lynnhurst Plan! No New Traffic at 51st & James Ave.

Not only the people who use the Parkway will be rerouted. Many people who live in the neighborhood use Humbolt Avenue to the intersection by Lynnhurst Community Center to get to 50th, 46th, or other streets to travel to work or other business while avoiding the busy intersection by Burroughs Elementary and Mount Olivet Church. We will be forced to use the James Avenue/50th Street intersection more or drive blocks out of the way. There will be an increase in traffic congestion on already busy streets like Lyndale, Penn, 50th, 53rd, and 54th. I am most concerned about extra traffic impacting safety by the very busy elementary school and church as well as in the overall neighborhood. Extra traffic in the neighborhood would also be a livability issue by adding stress and impacting drive times. Also, I anticipate the tax burden will excessively fall on homes in the neighborhood that will be negatively impacted by the change.

Really bad idea - parents are picking up their kids on that street and you already have to be extremely careful during that time. Same for Sunday’s when families are attending church.

I have previously written to the Park Board Commissioners . As a 47 yr resident and member of Mt Olivet, I
strongly disagree with the plan to reroute traffic onto 51st St. and create a more dangerously congested area.

This street is already congested, people already drive too fast, even on school days, and there's no stop sign on 51st and James. Add that the normal congestion of services at Mt. Olivet, and it's pretty clear that this proposed rerouting is an asinine idea. What sort of planning went into this idea? Did they even survey the traffic patterns?

We live at 1323 W Minnehaha Pkey, which gives us the chance to see how many kids/families are in foot as they go to school. To reroute traffic to make James more car-crowded and therefore more dangerous to many children, is irresponsible at best. We strongly urge all to reconsider this plan.

I support all the points made in this petition. In addition this plan would interrupt the flow of the Grand Rounds, certainly the jewel we use to show off our beautiful lakes and homes.
It seems odd that less disruptive options to deal with the congestion on 50th and the Parkway have not been tried.

The plan to divert traffic from the Parkway across 51st street to James is suboptimal at best, (lots of bus traffic & church traffic along those streets), and unsafe at worst, (the arc in the bridge over Minnehaha at James screens drivers' view of pedestrians crossing James at 51st. With all the Elementary students who cross there, this a bad site to add traffic to.
