It's been very difficult in the past to carry this out due to newly qualified OOs accepting low rates and salaries and undercutting experienced optoms. It's frustrating , and as min wage rises and living costs too, the rates should be adjusted.
I am in agreement it's just difficult to boycott corporates who are undermining our industry and driving it down they way that they are because there are so many optoms now qualifying.

Showing my support for a Locum Optometrist/Optometrist Union, in times when corporate optical companies are making more than enough money to stop the lowering of Optometrist wages nationwide

Being a Locum is hard work. Lowering the rates is disgraceful.

I agree completely. If we don't take a stand our profession will be degraded further.

I don't accept anything less than £300 weekday and £350 Saturday. If they don't like it then tough - and guess what I'm fully booked with regular days. If you're good enough, you will always get the rate you want period. So locums need to stop accepting less.

It's unfair what multiples are doing and Locum rates have to be standardised. Some of us locums have so much more experience and hence undervalued

We need to stick together and have a minimum rate of £300 on weekdays.. If locums except the low rates, companies will only keep dropping their rates

Totally agree! It may not work straightforward but if you stick to your guns and do a good job, companies come back to you. And the ones which do not tend to be the ones with shorter testing times and more commercial pressure, so believe in yourself and do not compromise.

We are the professionals and we are in control of everything clinical. These big multiples need to learn that they do not dictate!

It is disappointing to see companies offering lower daily rates and introducing caps at a time where living costs are increasing and when there is increased pressure on sales, increased responsibilities and risk of litigation.

Salary should definitely be pushed. As optometrist our qualification and importance of our role on healthcare is being seriously undermined
