Shame on the teacher's unions! The universal declaration of human rights says that parents have a pre-existing and primary right to determine how their children are educated! For most American, we are taxed thousands per year (through our property tax rolls, the primary source of funding for public schooling). By rights, for those of us whose needs aren't being served by public school system these taxes support, we should have every right to a refund of these tax payments to seek educational options elsewhere, from educational resources that fulfill our needs, in terms of philosophy, religious inclination, or random preference: read 'self-determination, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness'). Beyond mere donations from businesses, this program should be funded, and tax credits for tuition payments to offset property taxes should be pursued. The NEA and other teachers' unions merely want to exert bad-faith 'separation doctrine' challenge-political power to force recipients of these scholarships back into their schools… just for the revenue. Just for their jobs. Why are teachers unionized? Their unions fight for their own rights, benefits, and interests… NOT those of students. Students benefit from increased options, choice, and latitude for their parents. Teachers benefit from shutting down options, and funneling all students into a unionized local school district, where demand for union teachers increases, and union salaries increase. Shame on you. When will we have a student union that demands justice and student safety, education and rights, rather than merely a joke of a PTA/O playing footsie with the local school board. Students need to unionize and demand from their schools what they are owed… rather than teachers demanding from all of us "what they are owed." All schools need funding to operate, and the schools that should, by right, have our funding are schools that we find acceptable in terms of these very criteria. This scholarship is a blessing for my son Andrew who is 11 and diagnosed with Autisim. Andrew for the first time in his life expressed how excited he is to go to school . It makes me cry with joy to see my son enjoying his experience in school rather than being just child set aside who's too different than the normal child and us constantly feeling out if place . Public school is a set up for Andrew to fail bc he doesn't process information the way public schools expect him too . Taking away this scholarship is taking away the opportunity for Andrew to have a positive learning experience throughout his life . It will be detrimental to his education and social needs . This scholarship gives Andrew every opportunity to be productive and to perform to his upmost potential . This scholarship has been like giving Andrew back his life !

Were it not for this scholarship, my granddaughter would not be able to get a faith based education in a safe environment. It comes as no surprise that the public teachers' union is anti non-public education. Our local school district is even openly hostile to charters.

My local public school got an F last year. My daughter loves her school. She should be able to remain there. Our children are our future. Everyone should be looking out for their best interests, not the public systems best intetest.

This Scholarship program has helped mant families give their children yhe oppurtunoty too get a great education with religious values for their children.

I am thankful and blessed for this program. It's just disappointing to know there are people who are more caught up in financial politics then the productive educational future of our children. The groups need to realize that in order to get a better tomorrow you have to properly prepare the children of today. They should encourage families on the change and freedom, not keep it in bondage.

I'm a single mother of special needs kids and without this scholarship I wouldn't be able to afford to send my oldest to private school where he is doing amazing compared to public school.

they should not take this from our kids from them when there parnets cant afford a better scho for there kids my kids get a scholarship they love there school and would be crushed if i had to put them in public school.......

I here by clearly express my displeasure about the lowsuit aganist step up for students.What is wrong with doing the best thing in the world?Should organization like stepup for student be suied for their cherished desire and genuine mission?I call on these who involved in sueing step up to drop their claim and rather support step up for its right mission!!!

Thanks for giving underprivileged children the opportunity to attend schools where the teachers and staff care and are concerned about the children and their future. Most public schools are full of teachers that don't take their jobs to heart. They're there for a paycheck and paycheck only. Some of them can't deal with inner city kids therefore they teach the ones that want to learn and forget about the b kids that need nurturing and guidance.
